PARTS OF SPEECH WORKBOOK
This workbook can be combined as one workbook or as individual books. It is designed to help children to write their own word lists and to identify parts of speech orally and in reading/writing. The word they pick can also be incorporated in to Vocabulary learning.
The best way to use the workbook is take words from the decodable books the children are reading , the storybooks you are reading to them or the topic of learning at school for that term. This will also support background knowledge and vocabulary and help build those foundations of literacy.
Remember to explicitly teach each concept to the child before asking them to find any words and please take the time to talk to them about the word meaning and how you can use it in a sentence. If the child can’t read the words then the exercise can be down orally. The child can either write the word themselves by copying from the book or you can write it for them. Copying is only being here used here to support strengthening hand muscles for handwriting.
The purpose of this workbook is help children identify parts of speech not so much reading or writing at this stage so scaffold those areas where needed.
