WHERE DO I START?

Homeschooling is one of the biggest steps a parent can take to educate their dyslexic child. This section of the website has been set up to help you guide you to the correct information and the right people to support you. You need to start to think about what homeschool would look like for you and your child.

We have provided some helpful resources to support you in your choices.

We recommend you join and read through these websites:

The National Council of Home Educators New Zealand (NCHENZ)

The National Council of Home Educators New Zealand (NCHENZ) was set up as an incorporated society in 1998 to encourage, promote, inform and advance home education in NZ at a national level. They organise group memberships to online platforms, list resources, and also list all the local Facebook groups in your area. They are the official homeschooling  group for the homeschooling community in New Zealand. Membership is free and they have lots of information to help guide you along the way.

Cynthia Hancox

For over 20 years, Cynthia has home educated 5 children. She has spent countless hours supporting families through the home education exemption application process, answering general questions, and serving as a Government Liaison for the National Council of Home Educators.

Her website is a wealth of knowledge answering many of the questions around homeschooling. The deb recommends anyone who is thinking of homeschooling to purchase Cynthia’s exemption guide.

Home Education Exemption Application Guide Pack – 2021 update

The  77 page guide includes an example application, and template to help you create your own successful exemption application. We have had many deb members use this guide including two of the main admins of the deb Facebook group. It comes highly recommended.

Homeschool New Zealand is the preferred national Facebook group.
