WRITING
Writing Cheatsheet
This document was compiled and adapted by Sharon Scurr to support structured and scaffolded written responses for her son at home. It was developed as a practical tool to assist with retrieving, organising, and applying knowledge that has already been explicitly taught, particularly during paragraph and extended writing tasks.
The resource is intended to function as a reference and writing scaffold during learning activities. It is not a formal teaching manual or a comprehensive instructional programme. Rather, it is designed to complement explicit instruction by providing a clear and accessible framework that learners can refer to while developing their writing skills. The document has intentionally been left in Word format so members can adapt, personalise, and expand it to suit the specific needs of their students or children. Any additional PDFs intended to be inserted into particular sections are clearly identified on the contents page, with page numbers provided and highlighted in black for easy reference.
Parents, teachers, and students are welcome to use this resource as a supportive guide when working on paragraph construction and written responses.

Adolescent Literacy is focused on intervention.

The Writing Revolution: A Guide to Advancing Thinking through Writing in All Subjects and Grades

The Writing Revolution (TWR) provides a clear method of instruction that you can use no matter what subject or grade level you teach. The model, also known as The Hochman Method, has demonstrated, over and over, that it can turn weak writers into strong communicators by focusing on specific techniques that match their needs and by providing them with targeted feedback. Insurmountable as the challenges faced by many students may seem, TWR can make a dramatic difference. And the method does more than improve writing skills. The 2.0 version provides more examples and options on how to scaffold the writing tasks.

William Van Cleave – Writing Matters
Writing Matters presents grammar in a systematic, sequential, and structured manner. Students have opportunities to learn about parts of speech through a variety of activities that let them see these components as tools that can be manipulated in sentence construction. Sentence writing is the ultimate application of this process.
